Install Prestashop themes step by step

Although the latest Prestashop version, 1.7 and its predecessors come with a pre-installed default theme, not all of us want to have our store looking default and boring. Most of you would love to customize your store in a way it becomes unique and attractive to the customers. This can be fulfilled when you install Prestashop themes to your website. But how do you do that?
That’s what you are going to learn after going through the step-by-step guide given below.

Step 1: Choose and download a theme

There are thousands of Prestashop themes available online for purchase and free download. Some themes are available for specific categories such as arts, cooking, travel, education etc...
Go through the themes from Prestashop.com or our website Prestashop Addons Store and find the one that best suits your store. The decision on whether to choose a free or paid theme is completely in your hands. It’ll solely depend on what features and what kind of a layout your store requires.
Once you have selected a theme, click on the ‘More Details’ button to navigate to the download page. After going through the details, you will get either a ‘Download’ button or an ‘Add to Cart’ button depending on whether your theme is free or paid respectively.
Note: You have to ‘Register/Login’ with the site to complete the download process.

Step 2: Install the theme

To install Prestashop themes, you should have access to use the Back Office admin dashboard of your website.
  1. First, log in to your Prestashop website’s back office.
  2. Click on the ‘Preferences’ link on the menu on the left and select ‘Themes’ from its sub-items.
  3. Once you are navigated to the Themes page, click the ‘Add New Theme’ button on the top right side.
  4. In the ‘Import Theme’ page, go to the ‘Import from your Computer’ section and select the ‘Add File’ option.
  5. Browse your computer and select the downloaded theme file.
  6. Click the ‘Save’ button on the bottom right side of the same section.

Step 3: Activate the theme

Now when you visit the front end of your online store, the newly installed theme will be applied to it.
After your theme has been installed you will be taken back to the main Theme screen. You will see the themes listed at the top of the screen. This listing gives a summary of several features of all installed themes. These can be used for comparison in deciding which theme to make active. Below this area is a thumbnail of each theme. The active theme will have a selected radio button. To activate a different theme, simply select the radio button next to it's name.
Congratulations! Your theme is now installed! You can browse to the front end of your application and check its new look.
